Massacres in Iran reported on Twitter

After a relatively quiet start to the day in Tehran reports are coming through on Twitter of police brutality of epic proportions taking place in the city. Here are a selction of this evenings Tweets to date:

"there are fights going on in Vanak, Tajrish and Azadi as we speak. In Baharestan square, they beat the shit out of people"

"Baharestan Sq. was Tiananmen Sq. today, just vicious violent i dont know what to call them, they're not human"

" Sea of Green was at every sq, taking on the basij & being beaten until the ground covered in blood."

"saw 7/8 militia beating one woman with baton on ground - she had no defense nothing - …sure that she is dead"

Whatever, the the future for this nation which, if these reports are accurate, may perhaps be approaching civil war, there is no doubt that there is no simplistic solution. One thing is for sure, though, with no independent media coverage and no right to peaceful protest as one Tweet asserts, "Twitter is the greatest weapon available to the protesters"! http://tinyurl.com/mp6uf4
